What is H.U.F.?

H.U.F. means Hindu Undivided Family.
An H.U.F. is a separate entity that can be created by members of a family, wherein the members are lineal ascendants or descendants.

Who can form H.U.F.?

  • Hindu
  • Buddhists
  • Jains
  • Sikhs
  • And all those who are covered under Hindu Law.

It can be formed by any family above mentioned caste. H.U.F. consists of a Head of family, i.e. Husband and all of his legal heir, i.e. his wife,unmarried son(s) and unmarried daughter(s). Thus, after forming of H.U.F., Husband is called as Karta of H.U.F.

Taxation of H.U.F.

  • An H.U.F. is separate Entity, therefore,it has separate PAN and has separate taxation calculations
  • An H.U.F. is taxed separately from its members, therefore, deductions (such as under Section 80) or exemptions allowed under the tax laws can be claimed by it separately.

How To Form H.U.F.?

  • A Gift from Father or Mother or Father-in-Law or Mother-in-Law of Head of Family in favour of H.U.F.
  • Drafts Deed of Hindu Undivided Family on Indian Judicial Stamp Paper.In Deed,
    • Details of Gift received from Father or Mother or Father-in-Law or Mother-in-Law of Head of Family in favour of H.U.F
    • Details of Head of Family /Husband (who will be Karta of H.U.F.) along with Photo, Address, PAN and Aadhaar.
    • Details of complete family should be mentioned along with their address, PAN and Aadhaar
    • Attached Copy of Aadhaar Card and PAN Card of Karta (Head of Family /Husband) along with all family members.
  • Submit the Copy of Deed of Hindu Undivided Family to PAN Facilitation Centre to obtain separate PAN Number of H.U.F.
  • Now with copy of Deed of Hindu Undivided Family and copy of PAN Card of H.U.F., visit to any nearest Bank to Open New Saving Account of H.U.F.
